It’s alive, it’s alive. The new Tesla Model X all-electriccrossover has revealed in full picture. The first of its kind prototype fromTesla, and just as we had expected, it is similar to the Model S.
The new Tesla Model X Concept is based on the current ModelS, with the batteries housed in the same flat configuration as the Model S,which translates to more cabin space. According to Elon Musk, the Tesla Model Xcan fit up to seven people along with their luggage. Talk about luggage, theModel X has two trunks: one in front and one in the back. The new Model X alsofeatures the “falcon” gullwing-like doors, which we doubt that will be in thefinal production model.
The Tesla Model X features the same electric power system asthe Model S, and it comes with an all-wheel drive along with a range of batteryoptions. But the Model X is heavier than the Model S, which translates to about10 percent less range from its 60-kWh and 85-kWh batter packs. So the basemodel with a 60-kWh battery pack is good for 207 miles, and can propel the carup to a top speed of 120 mph. While the 85-kWh battery pack that can provide upto 270 miles of driving range, and it has a top speed of 125 mph. A note thatthe driving ranges are based on an average speed of 55 mph. For those who liketo put the pedal to the metal once a while, it is good to know that the TeslaModel X can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. That will ought tomake a lot of standard sports cars embarrass.
So far, according to Tesla, the Model X will cost around thesame as the Model S. It’s price will start at around $50k after tax credits,and can increase up to about $90k with the top-end model. Tesla will starttaking reservations later today (February 10th) at noon Pacific Standard Time.
