2011 KTM 690 Duke

Back then, KTM revived the pure, unadulterated single-cylinder motorcycle in the form of the "original" Duke. Judging by the latest 690 Duke that stands before us today, much has been gained: smoothness, room for a pillion passenger, long-distance ability. But what it has never lost is its intensive and elemental ride dynamics. The most modern series production single-cylinder of our times and a precision chassis with a wealth of high-quality components turn every trip on the 690 Duke into an incomparable and unforgettable riding experience.

2011 KTM 690 Duke Features

Polished ride dynamics

Centralisation of masses

The Duke not only impresses with low weight and perfect chassis geometry; the centralisation of masses - for example, by positioning the silencer under the engine - also contributes to its playful handling and razor-sharp precision.

Ergonomics

Thanks to its low weight of less than 150 kg (331 lb.), its first-class chassis and its outstanding brakes, the Duke is a curve-bandit par excellence. The gathered sitting position and freedom of movement behind the ideally angled, wide aluminium handlebars support the perfect control of the vehicle.

Low fuel consumption

Injection / Engine management / Drive-by-wire

The 690 Duke's fuel economy is amazing. Why? Thanks to its low weight of less than 150 kg (331 lb.) and its highly efficient engine management system with electronic injection. And also to its state-of-the-art OHC single-cylinder engine.

Dynamic cornering fun

Frame and swingarm

The Duke's 9 kg (20 lb.) lightweight tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel and the 4 kg (9 lb.) lightweight, high-quality, pin-jointed, die-cast swingarm impress with extreme levels of torsional stiffness and give rise to excellent tracking stability.

Suspension Elements

Well-equipped for every situation: The Duke's WP upside-down forks with 48 mm (1.89 in) upright tube diameter are adjustable in many ways and the pivot-arm articulated WP pressurised-gas monoshock even features high-speed and low-speed compression adjustment.

Brakes

The Duke's extremely powerful and easily applied Brembo® brakes impress with outstanding controllability. On the front wheel, a radially-mounted, four-piston, fixed brake caliper bites onto a floating 320 mm (12.6 in) brake disc.

Strapping, yet refined single-cylinder

Engine

The 690 Duke's state-of-the-art water-cooled single-cylinder engine with 48 kW (64 hp) and fuel injection combines powerful acceleration from the lowest revs with an outstanding free-revving nature and refined engine running. Its series production anti-hopping clutch prevents rear wheel chatter when changing down.

Balancer Shaft

The finely balanced crank drive of the 690 single-cylinder converts terrific combustion pressure into unrivalled single-power - thanks to its balancer shaft, which eliminates vibration without having any detrimental effect on the life of the super-single.

Injection / Engine management / Drive-by-wire

The electronic engine management system always gets optimum performance out of the ingenious LC4 engine. The "electronic power throttle" also helps in achieving tremendously progressive power development: It ensures that the throttle commands from the rider are translated electronically into the optimum throttle valve opening at all times.
